Probationary Period
Your employment with Fortify will be probationary for the first thirty (30) days in Manitoba. This allows you time to learn about the company and your role, and for your Team Leader to evaluate your progress. During a probationary period, which is defined by provincial legislation, Fortify has the liberty to terminate employment without advance notice.
Overtime
Overtime pay will be paid for all eligible hours worked as listed by provincial legislation. (Provincial legislation varies in the definition of the standard work week and overtime pay). At Fortify, the standard work week is from Sunday to Saturday.
Each instance of overtime must be pre-scheduled and pre-approved by your Team Leader/Supervision. Any overtime worked will be paid out; you will not have the option to bank overtime hours for future time off.
The rate of pay for overtime worked is based on Provincial legislation and is paid at one-and-one-half times the regular rate. The provincial overtime requirement for Manitoba is, excess of 8 hours per day, or excess of 40 hours in one work week.
Pay Day
Payroll is directly deposited into your personal bank account. Please check your employment contract for your payment schedule.
If your banking information changes at any time, you must notify your Team Leader immediately. Do not close any bank accounts until you are certain your pay is being deposited into the new account that you have provided.
You will receive a pay statement electronically to email that you provided each payday, detailing your earnings and all deductions. If you have any questions or concerns regarding payroll, please contact your Team Leader for clarification.
Rest and Meal Breaks
Your rest and meal breaks are scheduled by your Team Leader in accordance with provincial requirements. Working through breaks to leave your scheduled shift early is not permitted. No payment can be given in lieu of breaks and breaks not taken are forfeited.
Employees are permitted the following breaks upon the hours scheduled during a shift:
*Half hour unpaid break during an 8 hour shift
*15 minute unpaid break for a shift under 8 hours
Hygiene
Hands should be washed frequently to avoid the spread of germs. This includes, but is not limited to, Fortify Shop and Fortify Wellness, where the spread of germs can be prevalent when interacting with and touching products, engaging with clients, door handles, etc.
Hand washing is most important in Fortify Foods, where we are trusted to provide a safe, clean, consumable product to the guest. You can never wash your hands too often here. After touching your face or hair, picking up garbage, running through a transaction on the tablet, money handling, putting away dirty dishes and before putting away clean dishes, etc., you must always wash your hands.
Consumption in Foods Area
Food is not to be consumed in or around the same area where we prepare a guest's food and drink. Chances for cross contamination are high. The designated areas for staff meals are at a table in Foods or in the office if there are no tables available, keeping in mind there must be no business being conducted in the office at that time.
Consumption in Wellness Area
In Fortify Wellness, Practitioners and Wellness Assistants can choose to eat in their offices between engagements, or at the back staff kitchen area. Food is not to be consumed at the Welcome Desk. We must appear and be readily available for anyone who may enter the building.
Use discretion in regards to your shift and the business that comes with Fortify Wellness. Use of a nearby practitioner room to keep food you are currently consuming so you can leave and come back to it when appropriate is a valuable option.
Office Accessibility
The office located at the back end of Fortify Shop is a space where important administrative work needs to be done to keep the business needs up to date and moving efficiently. The office should not be used frivolously or as a hang out. The door should be kept closed at all times as this space holds sensitive documents, employee files and financial reports not meant for the public eye. We have an open door policy for communication, but it needs to be presented in a focused and scheduled way. Knock in case of an urgent matter or please wait until said person is available for conversation.
Time Tracking and Clocking In/Out
In Fortify Shop and Fortify Foods, all employees are expected to clock in and clock out for work and breaks. If for any reason you may have incorrectly tracked your time during your shift, please inform your immediate supervisor or manager to correct this problem that day or as soon as possible to not cause difficulty for payroll processing.
Personal Property and Storage
Fortify will not be held responsible for any loss or theft of an employee’s items or property at work. We strive to make the workplace as safe as possible with locked doors for each practitioner room and storage for shoes and coats in an area not accessible to the public. To minimize the risk of theft, please do not bring excessive amounts of cash, valuable jewelry, or expensive technology devices, to work. In the case where you must, please ask management to store your items in the office or a locked area to keep them as safe as possible.
Cash Handling
It is not acceptable for employees to use company funds, store cash, (e.g., floats, pay outs, over/short funds) for the purpose of personal purchases, loans, payments or staff payroll/wages, etc., at any time.
Tips through Fortify Foods are collected and paid out bi-weekly on your paycheck. Please see electronic pay stub for individual values and details.
Any violations of cash handling related to the above-mentioned scenarios will be grounds for termination.
