Prevention of Violence
Workplace violence is a serious issue that can affect any business sector. It affects the safety and security of every employee and employer.
Workplace violence is defined as:
The exercise of physical force by a person against a worker, in a workplace, that causes or could cause physical injury to the worker.
An attempt to exercise physical force against a worker, in a workplace, that could cause physical injury to the worker.
A statement or behaviour that is reasonable for a worker to interpret as a threat to exercise physical force against the worker, in a workplace, that could cause physical injury to the worker.
Fortify will not tolerate any form of violence in its workplace against or by any individual including employees, directors, team leaders, supervisors, contractors, suppliers, customers, visitors.
As an employee:
It is important that you report to your Team Leader if you have any concerns related to violence in the workplace, as indicated in the definitions of “workplace violence”.
If you are experiencing violence outside the workplace (i.e. domestic violence) that may create a risk of danger to yourself or others in the workplace, you are encouraged to report such violence so that Fortify can take reasonable preventative steps.
As an employer, Fortify:
Takes every precaution reasonable for the protection of employees, when we are aware that violence may be occurring in the workplace.
Provides information to employees related to the risk of workplace violence from a person with a history of workplace violence.
Prepares and reviews, at least annually, a policy on workplace violence.
Develops and maintains a workplace violence prevention program.
Ensures all reports of actual or potential workplace violence incidents by employees are investigated in a fair and timely manner by a qualified investigator.
